A Surfer’s Guide to Wind, Swell and Surf Conditions Along the North East Coast

If you surf the North East coast of England, understanding wind direction is one of the most useful skills you can develop.

What Does Blown-Out Surf Look Like?

For bigger swells, the same principle applies β€” but the resulting waves can become considerably more powerful and should only be approached by surfers with the appropriate experience.

The Golden Rule

Remember:

The swell brings the waves β€” the wind determines how clean or messy they become.

A storm can generate the swell you want.

But you don’t necessarily want to surf during the storm.

Sometimes the best session comes after the storm, when the wind changes and cleans up the swell.
